Adverse Weather Disrupts Flights at Tribhuvan International Airport
Adverse weather conditions have significantly impacted flight operations at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) today, leading to delays and cancellations of both domestic and international flights. According to TIA’s General Manager, Jagannath Niraula, the disruption is due to low visibility caused by ongoing adverse weather.
Domestic flights have been particularly affected, with services to Pokhara being canceled altogether. Additionally, flights to Janakpur and Simara have faced delays. Buddha Air’s information officer, Dipendra Kumar Karna, confirmed the cancellation of the Kathmandu-Pokhara flight and reported a delay in the flight towards Bharatpur Airport. In another instance, a Buddha Air flight bound for Surkhet was diverted to Pokhara due to the weather conditions.
The international sector has also been affected. A flight operated by Air China, scheduled to land at TIA at 10:55 AM today, was diverted back to its point of origin. Some other international flights have been placed on hold until conditions improve.
The Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has attributed the adverse weather to the monsoon wind currently influencing the country. The monsoon trough is positioned slightly northward, resulting in partial to widespread rainfall across Nepal. Light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder, is occurring in several parts of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with isolated heavy rainfall forecasted in parts of Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are advising passengers to stay updated on their flight status.
