Advocate Bhagwati Pandey Arrested

Advocate Bhagwati Pandey was arrested on Wednesday morning after a controversial statement she made during a recent television interview sparked outrage and protests. Pandey had remarked that marriages between brothers and sisters occur in Muslim, Magar, and Tamang communities, leading to widespread condemnation.

The arrest came in response to a formal complaint filed against Pandey at the District Police Range. The police took swift action, taking her into custody to prevent any potential escalation of tensions.

Prior to Pandey’s arrest, two prominent ethnic organizations, Nepal Magar Sangh and Nepal Tamang Sangh, staged a protest in front of the Teku Police Range. The protesters demanded Pandey’s immediate arrest for her remarks, which they deemed offensive and culturally insensitive.
