After Acquittal, Sandeep Lamichhane Expresses Relief: ‘Justice, Though Delayed, Prevailed’

Cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane, recently acquitted in a rape case, has voiced his sense of relief, stating that justice has finally been served, albeit after a prolonged wait.

The Patan High Court rendered its verdict today, overturning the previous ruling of the Kathmandu District Court. Judges Sudarsan Dev Bhatta and Anju Dhakal presided over the joint bench that declared Lamichhane not guilty.

Maintaining his faith in the judicial system, Lamichhane expressed his determination to move forward positively.

Having consistently maintained his innocence, Lamichhane faced an eight-year prison sentence following the district court’s decision. However, the high court’s thorough review of evidence and arguments led to his exoneration.

This verdict marks a significant turnaround for Lamichhane, whose career had been halted by legal proceedings. With his innocence established, his supporters anticipate his prompt return to cricket, with hopes of participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup, subject to the Cricket Association of Nepal’s suspension being lifted.
