AIG Thapa Appointed Acting IGP as Kunwar Heads to UNCOPS Summit
In the wake of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar’s departure to attend the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in the United States, Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Deepak Thapa has assumed the role of Acting IGP. Thapa will oversee the day-to-day administrative operations at the police headquarters during Kunwar’s absence.
The UNCOPS 2024 summit, scheduled for 26-27 June at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, aims to foster collaboration among national and international policing bodies to enhance global peace, security, and development. Led by Home Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, a delegation of five Nepalese officials departed for New York on Monday to participate in this significant gathering.
Alongside IGP Kunwar, other prominent Nepalese attendees include Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal, Deputy Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, and Senior Superintendent of Armed Police. The summit will convene Ministers, Chiefs of Police, and senior representatives from various regional and professional policing organizations to discuss critical issues affecting international security.
Nepal’s participation underscores its commitment to international cooperation in law enforcement and its proactive engagement in global policing initiatives. The delegation’s involvement at UNCOPS 2024 is expected to strengthen Nepal’s partnerships with international policing entities and contribute to ongoing efforts to maintain global peace and security.
