Amrit Rai Promoted to Foreign Secretary
Amrit Bahadur Rai, the Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been promoted to the position of Secretary following a decision made during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Rai officially assumed his new role on Wednesday.
The promotion comes after the appointment of former Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal as Nepal’s Ambassador to Belgium. Lamsal’s recommendation was approved by the parliamentary committee, paving the way for Rai’s elevation.
Rai, a senior-most Joint Secretary, has had an illustrious career in Nepal’s foreign service since joining the government in 1996. Prior to his recent responsibilities, he served as the ministry’s spokesperson and also represented Nepal as its Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Rai’s leadership is expected to bring continuity and expertise to Nepal’s diplomatic and foreign policy initiatives.
