APF and SSB Joint Team Clears Illegal Settlements on No Man’s Land in Sarlahi
A combined operation by the Armed Police Force (APF) of Nepal and the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) successfully dismantled unlawfully constructed human settlements on the no man’s land in Sarlahi district. The demolition drives targeted houses, animal sheds, and other structures that had been encroaching on the disputed territory and was carried out jointly by the two security forces.
According to Chief District Officer Indra Dev Yadav, a total of forty-one houses and animal sheds were demolished in the Madhubani settlement of Godaita Municipality-12 in Nepal, along with structures in Mejargunj Prakahnd and Bahera Gram Panchyat ward-12 in India.
Additionally, in Bishnu Rural Municipality-5 in Nepal, and Sitamadhi Bagaha Gram Panchyat-2 in India, twenty-eight concrete and thatched huts were cleared, all of which had been illegally erected on the no man’s land.
Abhitav Kushawa of the Madhubani settlement confirmed that these houses and animal sheds were constructed without authorization on the disputed territory.
In a separate operation, eight houses and shops located at Tribhuvannagar Sekhatole of Brahpuri Rural Municipality-4 in Nepal and Sonbarsha of Sitamadhi Sonbarsha Gram Panchyat-8 in India were also brought down.
It’s noteworthy that Nepal and India have adopted different methods to demarcate their respective borders, with Nepal using international pillars with even numbers, while India typically relies on bamboo stumps or small rocks for the purpose.
The joint clearance operation by the APF and SSB aimed to restore the integrity of the no man’s land and ensure that the disputed area is used appropriately and in accordance with international border agreements.
