Armed Police Force Intensifies Border Operations with Over 300 Patrols and 1,800 Checkpoints in 48 Hours

Amid heightened regional security concerns, the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal has significantly intensified border surveillance operations, conducted 312 patrols and setting up 1,844 checkpoints within a span of 48 hours. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa, the joint spokesperson of the APF, the patrols and checkpoints were carried out from Tuesday morning (Baisakh 23) to Thursday morning (Baisakh 25) along the Nepal-India border.
The operations included both joint patrols in coordination with India’s Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and individual efforts by APF personnel. During this period, 84 joint patrols and 228 individual patrols were undertaken. In terms of checkpoints, a total of 1,844 were established over the three days, with hundreds set up daily to monitor cross-border movement and enhance security vigilance.
Over 10,000 personnel have been deployed from regional headquarters including Barah Bahini in Sunsari, Chinnamasta Bahini in Mahottari, Gadhimai Bahini in Makawanpur, Muktinath Bahini in Kaski, Bindhyabasini Bahini in Rupandehi, and Baidyanath Bahini in Kailali. These deployments aim to reinforce the security presence along sensitive areas and prevent illegal activities.
The APF is working in close coordination with the Nepal Police, National Investigation Department, local government representatives, and the general public to ensure effective monitoring. At the same time, it has emphasized maintaining a balance between security enforcement and ensuring that the traditional, daily movement of people across the Nepal-India border is not disrupted or made uncomfortable. In addition to border vigilance, the force has also ramped up surveillance in urban areas identified as potentially sensitive from a security standpoint.
