Attorney General’s Office Reports 68.27% Success Rate in Fiscal Year 2023/24

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has reported a 68.27 percent success rate in cases prosecuted during the fiscal year 2023/24. The findings were revealed during a press conference held after the submission of its Annual Report to President Ramchandra Paudel.

The report states that government attorney offices prosecuted 45,091 cases involving 70,284 defendants. A decision was made not to prosecute 7.88 percent of the cases investigated, an increase compared to the previous fiscal year. The number of cases filed with the government as plaintiff totaled 44,811, while cases with the government as defendant reached 69,635.

The OAG provided legal advice on 45 constitutional and legal issues raised by various government bodies. It also implemented reforms to strengthen the criminal justice system, focusing on evidence-based prosecution processes.

Attorney General Ramesh Badal highlighted the necessity of enhancing the capacity of investigators and prosecutors to address the growing complexities of crimes influenced by technological advancements and the expanding scope of the government attorney offices. The report underscores the importance of modernization and efficiency in ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law.
