Australia Gears Up for the 15th Ghazal Mushaira Program
The renowned Ghazal Mushaira program, which commenced its journey in Sydney, Australia back in 2014, is gearing up to captivate audiences with its fifteenth edition on September 23, 2023.
Presented by the dedicated Ghazal Mushaira family and generously sponsored by Innovative Associates, this annual event has become a highlight in the cultural calendar of Sydney and beyond.
The Ghazal Mushaira program is a vibrant mix of ghazal recitations, soulful singing, and graceful dancing, held annually to celebrate Moti Jayanti in Sydney and on various other occasions in both Australian cities and international locations.
Originating with the noble aim of promoting Nepali literature from the diaspora, Ghazal Mushaira has grown into a significant campaign within the world of Nepali ghazal literature. It strives to encourage writers to create ghazals, foster a love for listening to and reciting ghazals, expand the reach of Nepali ghazals, and provide support to ghazal writers by collaborating with other organizations and individuals devoted to the development of Nepali Ghazal.
In keeping with its informal and engaging approach, the ‘Ghazal Mushaira Family’ is a global network of ghazal enthusiasts who oversee all Ghazal Mushaira activities and ensure their success.
The upcoming program will feature 33 ghazal recitations, one mesmerizing ghazal singer, and two graceful ghazal dancers, promising a captivating evening for all attendees.
The overarching goal of this campaign is to elevate Nepali ghazal to new heights while fostering a sense of belonging among all Ghazal Mushaira enthusiasts, who consider themselves part of the ‘Ghazal Mushaira family.’
The program is characterized by the meticulous announcement of ghazal performers beforehand, the honor bestowed upon these artists, a commitment to ghazal quality, and a comprehensive lineup featuring ghazal recitals, singing, and dancing.
Ghazal Mushaira’s steadfast adherence to these principles has set a trend for Nepali ghazal programs worldwide, earning it the recognition of being a trend-setting program.
Moreover, the Bhutanese Nepali community has actively embraced Ghazal Mushaira, establishing a literary bridge between the Nepali-speaking Bhutanese community and the Nepali community in Australia.
In a bid to make the program more inclusive, Ghazal Mushaira organizers have been inviting ghazal singers from cities outside Sydney, resulting in participation from various Australian cities, including Perth, Melbourne, Launceston, Albury, Brisbane, and Sunshine.
The support of Nepali-speaking Bhutanese organizers residing in different Australian cities has been instrumental in expanding the reach and influence of Ghazal Mushaira. Local ghazal artists outside Sydney have also contributed to the program’s growth, drawing literature enthusiasts into the world of ghazals.
The success of Ghazal Mushaira has sparked requests for its expansion to other cities in Australia and even internationally. Members of the Ghazal Mushaira family are now active in countries such as Malaysia, Qatar, UAE, the United States, Nepal, and more. This unique program, with its global reach, is well on its way to becoming a worldwide cultural campaign, continuing to enchant audiences with the magic of ghazals.
