Baglung to Launch Rs 367.7 Million Waste Management Project

In a major initiative to address long-standing waste management challenges, Baglung Municipality has launched a Rs 367.7 million project aimed at collecting and processing waste directly from its source.
Under the new plan, the municipality will collect household waste using distributed dustbins and process it at a newly constructed model landfill site. The processed waste will then be repurposed or sold, contributing to environmental sustainability and local revenue.
Baglung Municipality has partnered with The Equality Campaign Nepal to implement the project, signing an agreement that delegates full responsibility for waste treatment to the organization.
According to Mayor Basanta Kumar Shrestha, the agreement marks a significant step toward long-term waste management. A total of 15,000 dustbins have already been distributed across the town to promote waste segregation at the source.
Of the total project cost, 95 percent will be funded by The Equality Campaign Nepal, while the municipality will contribute the remaining five percent.
Mayor Shrestha also noted that the waste currently dumped at Maldhunga in Ward 1 will be managed through the new facility, which is envisioned not only as a treatment center but also as a hub for educational visits and eco-tourism.
