Authorities in Bajura district have begun assessing the damage caused by a 5.2-magnitude earthquake that struck at 4:14 AM today. The epicenter of the tremor was identified at Gotri in Jagannath Rural Municipality.
According to Officiating Chief District Officer (CDO) Rupak Mandal, initial reports indicate no human casualties. However, some houses in the affected area have developed cracks.
Mandal shared that one house in Budhinanda Municipality-4 collapsed during the tremor. Fortunately, three children inside the house were rescued without injuries.
The earthquake’s epicenter lies in a remote region, making it challenging to gather comprehensive information quickly. Police and local representatives are working in coordination with the administration to assess physical damage across all nine local levels of the district.
Updates on the extent of the damage are expected as teams continue their evaluation in the coming hours.
