Bangladesh Crowned Champion of SAFF U-20 Championship
Bangladesh has emerged as the new champion of the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) U-20 Championship football tournament, clinching the title with a resounding 4-1 victory over hosts Nepal in the final match held today at the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) ground in Satdobato, Lalitpur.
For Bangladesh, Mirajul Islam was the star of the match, scoring twice. He opened the scoring with a goal in the extra time of the first half and doubled the lead in the 55th minute. Rabi Hossain Rahul extended the lead to 3-0 in the 71st minute. Although Nepal’s Samir Tamang managed to score in the 81st minute, Piash Ahmed Nova sealed Bangladesh’s historic victory with a goal in the extra time of the second half, ending the match 4-1.
This victory marks Bangladesh’s first win in the SAFF U-20 Championship. The tournament, which began on August 18, featured teams from Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, and Bhutan.
Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners and runners-up by Minister for Youth and Sports Tejulal Chaudhary, Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Tanka Lal Ghising, ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang, and other distinguished guests.
