Bansbari Backlash: Binod Chaudhary to Face CIB Inquiry Over Land Transactions
Nepal Police is set to summon prominent industrialist Binod Chaudhary for questioning regarding the contentious purchase and sale of 10 ropanis of land belonging to the Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory. This decision comes following directives from Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane to initiate a thorough investigation into the matter.
The Home Minister’s personal secretariat member, Pramod Neupane, confirmed that instructions have been issued to bring the 10 ropanis of land under government ownership. As part of the investigation, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) Chief has been tasked with scrutinizing all individuals involved, including Nepali Congress lawmaker Binod Chaudhary.
The land in question, originally owned by the government-run Bansbari leather shoe factory, was allegedly sold to Champion Footwear Pvt Ltd, a private entity. Currently, Champion Footwear has ceased operations, with its assets registered under CG Chandbagh Residency Pvt Ltd. Arun Chaudhary, Binod Chaudhary’s brother and a key figure in the CG Group, has already been apprehended in connection with this case.
This case has its roots in events dating back 37 years when the Chaudhary Group faced allegations of fraudulent acquisition of the Bansbari leather shoe factory from the government. The recent spotlight on this issue intensifies following Arun Chaudhary’s arrest, shedding light on the country’s largest business conglomerate’s involvement in the matter.
The summons of Binod Chaudhary marks a pivotal development in the investigation, raising questions about the legality and transparency surrounding the transactions related to the Bansbari Leather Shoe Factory’s land. The outcome of the inquiry is eagerly anticipated as it holds implications not only for the individuals involved but also for the integrity of business dealings in Nepal.
