Bharatpur Shines Bright as Best Metropolis!
In a recent evaluation conducted by the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission (NNRFC), Bharatpur Metropolitan City has emerged as the top-performing metropolis in Nepal. The evaluation, which compared six metropolitan cities across the country, revealed Bharatpur’s exemplary performance in various indicators.
Scoring an impressive 56.29 percent, Bharatpur Metropolitan City has secured the leading position in the performance evaluation for the previous financial year 2079-80. The assessment was based on 17 key indicators aimed at determining the allocation of the financial equalization grant by the federal government to provinces and local levels in the upcoming fiscal year 2081-82.
The evaluation criteria encompassed a range of factors including municipality expenditures, audit findings, utilization of the local consolidated fund management system, periodic planning, revenue allocation, local tax collection efficiency, timely budget approvals, among others.
Jagannath Aryal, Head of the Economic Administration Division of Bharatpur Metropolis, expressed pride in the city’s achievement, citing the meticulous efforts undertaken to ensure effective governance and financial management.
Contrastingly, other metropolitan cities such as Kathmandu, Birganj, Biratnagar, Lalitpur, and Pokhara received varying scores in the evaluation. Kathmandu Municipal Corporation secured 39.02 percent, followed by Birganj with 33.49 percent, Biratnagar with 32.85 percent, Lalitpur with 25.18 percent, and Pokhara with 20.74 percent.
The evaluation outcomes play a crucial role in determining the allocation of equalization grants to local levels, underscoring the significance of efficient governance and fiscal management in enhancing the overall development of municipalities across Nepal.
The commendable performance of Bharatpur Metropolitan City stands as a testament to its commitment to excellence in governance and sets a benchmark for other urban centers to aspire to.
