Bikal Paudel Convicted of Corruption for the Second Time

The Special Court has once again pronounced Bikal Paudel, the former executive director of Surakshya Printing Center, guilty of corruption charges on Monday. The bench, comprising Judge Teknarayan Kunwar and members Ram Bahadur Thapa and Ritendra Thapa, ruled that Paudel had obtained benefits through the submission of false information.

Paudel has been sentenced to six months in prison and fined Rs 10,000 for his involvement in the corruption case. Furthermore, he faces an additional six-month imprisonment term for assuming the position of secretary by furnishing false information.

The case against Paudel was initiated on April 21, 2024, by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA). The allegations against him included obtaining a US Permanent Residence Permit (PR) while concealing this information and subsequently securing a public position in Nepal.

This recent ruling adds to Paudel’s legal woes, as he had previously been found guilty of corruption related to his tenure at Surakshya Printing Center. In that instance, he was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay Rs 250.47 million in compensation.
