Bimal Gharti Magar Bids Farewell to Nepali Football, Heads to Australia
Renowned national football team forward, Bimal Gharti Magar, has become the latest Nepali player to pursue a career abroad as he embarks on a journey to Australia. Magar, a key player for Lalitpur City FC in the Nepal Super League (NSL), recently terminated his contract, signaling his intention to explore new opportunities on foreign soil.
Bimal Gharti Magar, who is the youngest Nepal international player, made his mark on the football scene by scoring his debut goal against Pakistan during the 2013 SAFF Championship. Despite facing challenges in maintaining his playing standard in recent years, Magar has a rich history as an ANFA academy product and has represented various clubs in Nepal, India, and the Maldives throughout his career.
This move to Australia adds to the growing trend of Nepali footballers seeking opportunities overseas. In recent times, more than a dozen talented players from Nepal, including Dinesh Rajbanshi, Suman Aryal, Mikchen Tamang, Hemant Thapa Magar, Nitin Thapa, Tej Tamang, Abhishek Rijal, Deepak Singh Thakuri, Bimal Rana, Regine Subba, Pujan Uparkoti, Nishan Khadka, and Ravi Paswan, have migrated to Australia .
However, experts in the field have expressed concerns about the potential repercussions of this trend. The mass migration of an entire generation of Nepali football talent, often considered the backbone of the senior national team, could potentially disrupt the balance and performance of the national squad. As more Nepali players venture abroad, the football community will be closely watching how this trend shapes the future of Nepali football.
