Biocomp Nepal Collects Over 143 Metric Tonnes of Waste in River Cleanup Drive

Biocomp Nepal has successfully collected 143.55 metric tonnes of waste as part of a large-scale cleanup initiative targeting 16 rivers and rivulets across the Kathmandu Valley. The effort was carried out in collaboration with People in Need and Clean Up Nepal, with the participation of over 100 volunteers, local community members, Nepal Police personnel, and students from various educational institutions.

The cleanup campaign falls under the ‘River Plus Project,’ which aims to tackle plastic pollution by collecting and recycling low-quality plastics, particularly in the Bagmati, Bishnumati, and Manohara rivers.

Speaking at an event held today, Biocomp Nepal CEO Maarten Nijhof stated that the initiative focused on collecting non-recyclable plastics from households, industries, streets, rivers, and waste disposal sites. These plastics are then transported to a zero-emission recycling plant in Siraha’s Special Economic Zone, where they are processed into plastic composite boards.

So far, Biocomp Nepal has successfully collected 80 metric tonnes of low-quality plastic and repurposed it, reinforcing its commitment to reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable waste management.
