Birgunj Customs Office Collects Rs 49.92 Billion in Revenue in Four Months
The Birgunj Customs Office has collected Rs 49.92 billion in revenue during the first four months of the current fiscal year, falling short of its target of Rs 70.44 billion for the period.
Chief Customs Administrator Dipak Lamichhane attributed the shortfall to an increased number of public holidays in the months of Asoj and Kartik, which impacted revenue collection activities.
The customs office reported monthly revenue of Rs 12.16 billion in Sawan, Rs 13.23 billion in Bhadra, Rs 13.47 billion in Asoj, and Rs 11.4 billion in Kartik.
According to officials, 70% of the revenue at Birgunj Customs comes from the import of petroleum products, industrial raw materials, and vehicles.
The revenue collected this year marks a slight improvement from the Rs 49.18 billion collected during the same period last fiscal year. However, the inability to meet the target highlights challenges in achieving expected growth in customs revenue.
The Birgunj Customs Office remains a significant contributor to the national economy, serving as a critical hub for imports and trade.
