BP Highway Reopens After 16-Hour Closure Due to Flood Damage

The BP Highway has reopened for traffic after remaining closed for 16 hours due to flood damage caused by the swollen Roshi River. The highway had been rendered impassable on Monday night when floodwaters washed away a temporary diversion at Mamti in Roshi Rural Municipality-12, Kavrepalanchok.

Two-way vehicular movement resumed on Tuesday afternoon following urgent repair works. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Min Bahadur Ghale, the diversion was swiftly restored through the combined efforts of the local police, residents, and the Road Division Office in Bhaktapur.

Chandra Bahadur Lama, an official from the Bhaktapur Road Division Office, confirmed that the repair was completed under the Office’s coordination, enabling the restoration of traffic flow.

The BP Highway has faced recurring challenges from floods, particularly the severe damage it sustained during heavy rainfall from September 26 to 28 last year. Since then, authorities had been relying on temporary diversions along the riverside to maintain traffic movement.

With the highway now operational, authorities remain cautious, closely monitoring weather conditions and structural stability to prevent future disruptions.
