Budget Session of Federal Parliament Commences Today
Today marks the commencement of the budget session of the House of Representatives and National Assembly under the federal parliament. The session, a crucial event in Nepal’s legislative calendar, convenes following President Ramchandra Paudel’s summons in accordance with Article 93(1) of the Nepal Constitution. The summons, issued on May 2 on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, signifies the formal beginning of parliamentary proceedings.
The federal parliamentary secretariat had earlier issued notices requesting the presence of all members of parliament for the session scheduled to commence at 2:00 pm today at the International Conference Centre in New Baneshwor.
As per constitutional provisions, the session is convened to deliberate on the estimated details of income and expenditure, commonly referred to as the budget, for the upcoming fiscal year. This budget presentation is slated to take place on May 28 (Jestha 15).
Prior to the budget presentation, President Paudel will address the joint sitting of both Houses, presenting the government’s annual policy and program. This address serves as a roadmap for the government’s agenda and priorities for the forthcoming year.
To ensure the smooth functioning of the session, Speaker Devraj Ghimire has already engaged in discussions with the top leaders of major political parties represented in parliament. This proactive approach aims to foster cooperation and collaboration among parliamentary stakeholders, facilitating productive deliberations during the session.
