CAAN taking measures to impose a ban on Korean Air flights
In response to prolonged delays and uncooperative actions from Korean authorities, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) is taking measures to impose a ban on Korean Air flights. Despite extensive efforts by Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) to establish regular flights to Korea, the Korean authorities have consistently hindered progress on various pretexts.
A CAAN official revealed in a recent conversation with Republica that the Korea Office of Civil Aviation (KOCA) has repeatedly denied flight permissions for NAC’s aircraft over the past few years, citing various excuses. “Our nation’s aircraft have been ready for flights to Korea for months. CAAN has now decided to implement a ban since NAC’s flight schedule remains unconfirmed despite numerous discussions,” the official stated. “We can no longer tolerate their arbitrary decisions. NAC’s aircraft should be allowed to operate.”
It’s worth noting that due to tickets for the summer schedule having already been sold, an immediate ban on flights is not feasible. However, CAAN has taken action by sending a formal letter to Universal Travel and Tours, the general sales agent for Korean Air in Nepal, requesting that they refrain from selling winter tickets as the situation unfolds.
