Cabinet Extends Term of Four Armed Police Force DIGs by One Year

The Government of Nepal has decided to extend the tenure of four Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) of the Armed Police Force (APF), Nepal, for an additional year.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that the term extensions would apply to DIGs Shambhu Subedi, Ganesh Thadamagar, Kul Bahadur Nembang, and Kamal Giri, effective from midnight.

The extension aligns with Section 65(C) of the Armed Police Force, Nepal Regulations, 2072 BS, which stipulates a four-year tenure for the Inspector General of the APF. Sub-rule (2) of the section permits the government, on the recommendation of the Inspector General, to extend the tenure of Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) and DIGs by one year after completing their initial four-year term.

Today’s decision marks the exercise of this provision, allowing the four DIGs to continue serving for an additional year.

The extension is expected to bolster continuity and leadership within the Armed Police Force, ensuring the effective functioning of the security body, which plays a critical role in maintaining law and order, disaster management, and border security in Nepal.
