Captain Vivek Jung Shah MBE: A Distinguished Journey in Service

Renowned for his exceptional dedication and unwavering commitment, Captain Vivek Jung Shah MBE’s remarkable career serves as an inspiration to many.

Captain Vivek Jung Shah MBE, an individual of exceptional merit, was born in the heart of Nepal, Nepalgunj. Spending his formative years in Nepalgunj City, he emerged as a sportsman, representing his city in various sports at the under 15 to 18 levels. In 1999, he embarked on a journey to serve with the Brigade of Gurkhas, marking the inception of a distinguished career.

Upon completing his basic training, he joined the esteemed 28 Squadron, Queen’s Own Gurkha Transport Regiment, becoming a part of the 10 Transport Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) stationed in Colchester.

In the year 2000, Captain Shah was assigned to the 9 Supply Regiment Royal Logistic Corps in Hullavington. His dedication and unwavering commitment led him to deployment on Operation AGRICOLA 7 in Kosovo in 2001. His unwavering service continued as he was deployed to Iraq for Operation TELIC 2 in 2003 and once more for Operation TELIC 9 in 2006. The year 2007 saw him on Operation HERRICK 7 as part of a surge team, followed by Operation HERRICK 9 in 2008, Operation HERRICK 11 in 2009, and culminating with Operation HERRICK 16 in 2012.

In 2014, Captain Shah was appointed to The First Battalion, The Royal Gurkha Rifles, assuming the role of a first-line optimization team commander. His relentless commitment and dedication saw him ascend to the rank of Warrant Officer Class Two, where he undertook the role of Squadron Technical Warrant Officer of 1 Supply Squadron Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR).

His journey reached a new milestone in 2018 when he was commissioned as a Captain. His tenure as a Troop Commander with 28 Fuel and General Transport Squadron QOGLR was marked by dedication and excellence. Subsequently, he led a Troop of Gurkhas to 4 Regiment RLC to establish the 60 Combat Support Squadron. In 2020, he returned to 28 Fuel and General Transport Squadron, taking on the role of Squadron Second in Command and participating in Exercise NOBLE PARTNER 20 in Georgia. This exercise aimed to strengthen partnerships in the Caucasus.

In recognition of his remarkable achievements and contributions, Captain Vivek Jung Shah was invited to become a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List of 2021. This esteemed honor was awarded for his pioneering community engagement strategy and leadership in enhancing infrastructure during the QOGLR expansion in Abingdon. His service was a testament to maintaining the rich Gurkha traditions and culture within the Abingdon Nepalese Community, epitomized by the offering of a Hindu Temple to the wider community in Oxfordshire.

The year 2022 saw Captain Shah taking a leading role in the reformation of 31 Squadron QOGLR following the Integrated Review in 2021. His dedication remained unwavering as he was granted the acting rank of Major to lead the Quartermaster and Officer Commanding of Support Company on Operation TOSCA 37 in Cyprus.
