
Cardamom production up in Ilam


Production of cardamom has increased in Ilam district. According to Agriculture Knowledge Centre Ilam, cardamom production has increased despite decrease in cardamom cultivated land.
Centre Chief Tony Bardewa shared that production of cardamom has increased by 7.96 per cent in current fiscal year as compared to previous fiscal year.
Cardamom was planted on 1,753 hectares of land in the current fiscal year where 1320 metric tonnes of cardamom was produced. It was cultivated on 1,755 hectares of land in previous fiscal year where 1,215.26 metric tonnes was produced.
The productivity was 0.69 per cent per hectare in the previous fiscal year and it increased in the current fiscal year reached 0.75 per cent, he added.
Similarly, dragon fruit farming has been expanded in Ilam from this year. It has been cultivated on 10 hectares of land in the current fiscal year against 0.5 hectares of land in the previous year, according to the Center.
