China Rejects Trump’s Proposal for U.S. Takeover of Gaza

China has opposed former U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza and place the region under U.S. control, emphasizing its long-standing stance against forced displacement.
China supports the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated during a regular press briefing on Thursday.
The ongoing war in Gaza began following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, which left 1,200 people dead and more than 250 taken hostage, according to Israeli sources. In response, Israel’s military operation in Gaza has resulted in over 47,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry, sparking accusations of genocide and war crimes—charges that Israel denies.
Trump’s recent proposal for a U.S. takeover of Gaza follows earlier remarks suggesting that Palestinians should be permanently relocated to Egypt and Jordan, a suggestion publicly rejected by Palestinian and Arab leaders.
According to Reuters While many world leaders continue to advocate for a two-state solution—establishing both Israeli and Palestinian states—China has reiterated its support for this approach. Guo stated that Beijing is ready to work with the international community to push for a just political settlement to the Palestinian issue.
“Gaza belongs to the Palestinian people. It is an integral part of Palestinian territory, not a political bargaining chip, let alone subject to the law of the jungle,” Guo asserted.
In a position paper released in late 2023, China urged the United Nations Security Council to facilitate the revival of a two-state solution. The document stressed that any future arrangement for Gaza must respect the will and independent choice of the Palestinian people and must not be imposed upon them.
