Chairman of the International Relations and Tourism Committee, Rajkishor Yadav, has strongly condemned recent remarks made by Chinese Ambassador Chen Song regarding the search for a missing bus in Trishuli following the Simaltal landslide. Yadav stated that such comments violate diplomatic decorum.
The Chinese ambassador’s comments about the diving team from India, which was assisting in the search for the missing bus and passengers, have been deemed unfortunate by Yadav. He emphasized that the ambassador’s remarks on Nepal’s internal matters are unacceptable, noting that the ambassador’s role is to foster good relations between Nepal and China. Such comments, Yadav argued, risk creating a rift between the two nations.
“The International Relations and Tourism Committee takes this matter seriously and will seek information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Nepali people will not tolerate interference from ambassadors of friendly countries in Nepal’s internal affairs,” Yadav asserted. He added that the committee would issue necessary instructions after receiving details from the ministry.
Yadav explained, “There was an unfortunate accident in Nepal where two buses and their passengers went missing. The Nepal government is actively searching for them and has sought help from friendly countries. The Chinese ambassador’s comments on the arrival of an Indian search team are unfortunate. How can we maintain good relations between Nepal and China if such interests are mishandled? The ambassador’s behavior has exceeded official dignity, and our committee is serious about this.”
Ambassador Song’s comments on social media targeted the Indian diving team’s involvement in the Simaltal landslide search efforts. This issue has also been raised in parliament, with MPs demanding that the ambassador be summoned to provide an explanation.
