Chinese-Origin Citizen Held with Six Kilos of Gold
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) of Nepal Police has apprehended a 37-year-old individual of Chinese origin, identified as Senam Gurung, in connection with a major gold smuggling operation.
According to CIB spokesperson Superintendent of Police Hobindra Bogati, Gurung was detained in Kathmandu and found in possession of six kilos of gold. The operation, which underscores the increasing vigilance of Nepalese authorities against illegal activities, also led to the seizure of a substantial sum of cash from Gurung’s residence.
“A citizen of Chinese origin named Senam Gurung has been arrested from Kathmandu with six kilos of gold. Further investigation is being conducted in this matter,” stated Superintendent Bogati. The CIB confirmed that police recovered Rs 4.8 million in cash from the arrested individual’s house, raising suspicions about the scale and network of the smuggling activities.
