Chitwan Milk Processes 11.5 Million Liters for Powder and Butter Production

Chitwan Milk has processed 11.5 million liters of milk over the past year to produce powdered milk and butter, helping reduce milk waste and boost farmers’ incomes.

According to Durga Prasad Parajuli, Manager of the processing facility located in Thimura, Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1, the factory currently processes around 45,000 liters of milk daily. However, with rising temperatures, milk collection has seen a decline.

“Milk collection reached up to 25,000 liters a day until mid-April,” Parajuli noted. “But with warmer weather, demand for curd rises and less milk is available for powder and butter production.”

The factory sources milk from dairy cooperatives across the country—from Mechi to Mahakali—and converts it into powder primarily used by ice cream and biscuit manufacturers.

Thanks to the resumption of industries that were shut down following the 2015 earthquake, the longstanding issue of milk holidays has now subsided.

Kishore Bagale, President of the District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Association, said the large-scale processing has directly benefited farmers, providing a steady market for their milk and supporting the production of high-demand products like powdered milk and butter.
