Chitwan Rhinos Triumph Over Kathmandu Gurkhas by Five Wickets in NPL Match
Chitwan Rhinos secured a commanding five-wicket victory over Kathmandu Gurkhas in the second game of the Siddhartha Bank Nepal Premier League (NPL) held today at the TU Cricket Ground.
Chasing a modest target of 112 runs, Chitwan Rhinos reached 113 runs in 17.1 overs, losing five wickets along the way. Santosh Karki led the charge with a steady 28 runs off 31 balls, including two fours and a six. Contributions also came from Luc Benkenstein (22), Hassan Eisakhil (12), skipper Kushal Malla (11), Ravi Bopara (11), and an unbeaten 11 by Sharad Vesawkar.
Kathmandu Gurkhas’ bowlers tried to contain the Rhinos, with Shahab Alam claiming three wickets, while Gerhard Erasmus and Dan Douthwaite took one wicket each.
Earlier, Kathmandu Gurkhas, opting to bat first after losing the toss, managed only 111 runs for nine wickets in their 20 overs. Sumit Maharjan top-scored with 29 runs off 41 balls, hitting one four. Michael Levit added a brisk 25 runs with four fours and a six, while Dan Douthwaite remained unbeaten on 19 runs.
The standout performer with the ball was Chitwan Rhinos’ Sohail Tanveer, who dismantled the Gurkhas’ batting lineup with an impressive five-wicket haul, conceding only 21 runs in his four overs. Supporting him were Rijan Dhakal, Amar Singh Rautela, Kushal Malla, and Luc Benkenstein, who each claimed a wicket.
With this victory, Chitwan Rhinos have started their NPL campaign on a strong note, showcasing solid performances in both batting and bowling.
