CIAA Files Corruption Case Against Former Chair and Treasurer of Maivalley Community Forest Users’ Group

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against Dol Bahadur Karki, the former Chair of the Maivalley Community Forest Users’ Group in Ilam, and Treasurer Rita Sambahamfe. The case, filed today, accuses the two of engaging in corrupt activities during the Kabeli Corridor expansion project.

Karki is alleged to have acted as both the contractor and the Chair of the Users’ Group, a conflict of interest that led to unauthorized logging of trees beyond the permitted number. The CIAA has demanded legal action and the recovery of Rs 3.78 million, the amount believed to have been embezzled.

CIAA Spokesperson Narahari Ghimire stated that the charges include a request for imprisonment and fines against both Karki and Sambahamfe, in accordance with the law. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by the CIAA to combat corruption and ensure accountability in public service.
