Clash Erupts Between Backers of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Birgunj
Tensions flared on Tuesday in Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan City of Parsa as a disagreement over office space between Mayor Rajesh Mani Singh and Deputy Mayor Imtiaz Alam escalated into a physical altercation.
The conflict arose when Mayor Singh recently relocated his office to a new building, prompting Chief Administrative Officer Laxmi Prasad Poudel to swiftly occupy the vacated space. Simultaneously, Deputy Mayor Alam expressed his intention to move into Poudel’s recently vacated office. However, Mayor Singh advocated for relocating the Social Security and Civil Registration Section to the available room.
A disagreement ensued between the mayor and deputy mayor, leading to a confrontation. Deputy Mayor Alam called upon his supporters to gather at the sub-metropolis premises. In response, Mayor Singh’s followers also assembled, resulting in a physical altercation at the sub-metropolis office.
The District Police Office, Parsa, took immediate action by deploying a significant number of police personnel to restore order. “The situation is now under control,” assured Deputy Superintendent of Police Kumar Bikram Thapa.
