Class 12 Exams to Proceed as Scheduled Despite Teachers’ Protest: NEB

The National Examination Board (NEB) has confirmed that the Class 12 examinations will take place as scheduled from April 21, despite ongoing protests by the Nepal Teachers Federation. The decision was made during a board meeting held at the Higher Secondary Education Council office in Sanothimi today.

Addressing growing concerns among students and parents over potential postponement, the board clarified that the exams would not be delayed. NEB Examination Controller Krishna Sharma stated that exams will be conducted even if protesting teachers do not participate. In such cases, civil servants will be mobilized to ensure smooth operation.

Sharma emphasized that altering the exam schedule would negatively impact students’ preparation and potentially waste an academic year. To avoid this, the NEB has delegated responsibility to the District Examination Coordination Committees in each district, which will be led by the respective Chief District Officers (CDOs).

In districts where teachers are unavailable, CDOs will appoint civil servants to manage the exams. Teachers who are not part of the protest will be deployed as center heads and assistant heads where necessary.

The board also issued an appeal to the agitating teachers to cooperate in administering the Grade 12 examinations, which will see the participation of around 500,000 students this year.

A total of 1,591 examination centers, including one in Japan, have been designated for the exams. The board plans to mobilize an equal number of center heads and assistant heads, approximately 2,000 administrative staff, at least one office assistant per center, and up to 20,000 security personnel to ensure a safe and efficient examination process.
