CM Satish Kumar Singh Advocates Life Imprisonment for Corruption

Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has called for harsher penalties for corruption, advocating life imprisonment for those found guilty. Speaking at a province-level interaction on “Corruption Control and Good Governance,” organized by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in Janakpurdham on Monday, CM Singh emphasized the inadequacy of current laws, which impose a maximum 10-year sentence for corruption offenses.

“Present laws are insufficient to curb corruption. They favor politicians and employees in leading luxurious lives. Life imprisonment would be a more fitting punishment for such acts,” said Singh.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the need to address systemic issues contributing to corruption, including low salaries for government employees, which he said often push them toward seeking bribes and commissions. He further underscored the importance of enforcing the Right to Information (RTI) Act to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

CIAA Commissioner Jay Bahadur Chand, who also addressed the gathering, countered the criticism of anonymous complaints, stating that stopping such complaints could fuel corruption. “Anonymous complaints are a necessary tool to promote good governance and curb misconduct,” he remarked.

The event was attended by provincial ministers, Chief District Officer Ramu Raj Kadariya, local government representatives, and other officials.
