“Co-Husband” Selected as Reference Material in US and Canadian Universities
The documentary “Co-Husband,” which explores the polyandry practice in Nepal, has been selected as reference material in various colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Directed by journalist Ganesh Pandey, the 35-minute film was shot in Humla, a district in Nepal’s Karnali province.
Documentary Educational Resources, established in 1968 in the US, has decided to implement the documentary as reference material in US and Canada-based colleges and universities. The documentary has already garnered several prestigious international awards.
“Co-Husband” previously won the Best Short Film Award, along with a cash prize, at the 2023 Society for Visual Anthropology Film and Media Festival. This festival was organized in Toronto, Canada, by the American Anthropological Association and the Canadian Anthropology Society.
Polyandry, the practice of a woman having more than one husband, still exists in mountainous districts including Humla. “Co-Husband” is the first documentary to highlight this practice. The film took around four years to complete and was produced by Shine Media Pvt Ltd, with Pandey himself serving as the scriptwriter.
Pandey expressed immense pleasure upon learning that “Co-Husband” will be included as reference material in universities worldwide. His previous work, “Bhagyale Banchekaharu (Nepal Earthquake: Heroes, Survivors, & Miracles),” also received high acclaim, winning over a dozen international awards.
