Congolese Citizen Arrested in Kathmandu with Over 1 kg of Cocaine
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has arrested a Congolese citizen with 1 kg 101 grams of cocaine. The arrested individual has been identified as 49-year-old Apula Ekutshu Mbongo.
According to the NCB, the market value of the seized cocaine is estimated to be approximately Rs. 3.85 crore. Bureau spokesperson Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki disclosed that Mbongo was apprehended in Thamel on Friday.
SP Karki confirmed that Mbongo is believed to be a member of an international drug-trafficking syndicate. She had traveled to Kathmandu from Dubai on the 4th of Jestha. Suspicious of her activities, the police conducted surveillance and eventually apprehended her at a hotel in Thamel. During a search of her handbag, cocaine capsules wrapped in a plastic bag were recovered.
Further investigations suggest that Mbongo may have ingested the capsules to smuggle them into Nepal. The police have initiated legal proceedings against her under the Narcotics Control Act 2033.
