Constitutional Amendment Key to Political Stability: Maoist Centre Chair Dahal

Former Prime Minister and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has emphasized that amending the constitution is essential to ensure long-term political stability in Nepal.
Speaking at a press conference organized by Press Centre Nepal in Bhairahawa on Wednesday, Dahal—who is currently in Rupandehi as part of his party’s nationwide public awareness campaign—criticized major political forces for failing to act on their own commitments.
“Both the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML raised the issue of constitutional amendment during government formation talks, but neither followed through,” he said. “A timely review and amendment of the constitution within 10 years is necessary—not to limit the people’s rights, but to strengthen and expand them.”
Dahal reiterated that his party has no intention of toppling the government and that the ongoing campaign is aimed at advocating for people’s rights and addressing public grievances. He also warned against any regressive efforts to undermine Nepal’s republican system, stating that the campaign also seeks to confront such moves, whether in the name of monarchy or any other agenda.
