Construction of Tanahun Hydropower Project Resumes After 51-Day Stoppage Due to Payment Dispute

Work on Package I of the 140 MW Tanahun Hydropower Project in Jhaputar, Rishing Rural Municipality-1, has resumed after a 51-day halt caused by a payment dispute. The project, crucial for enhancing the region’s energy capacity, faced delays when construction was suspended over issues related to payment.

Project Head Shyamji Bhandari confirmed that work by the joint venture construction company, Songda Kalika, has restarted following a commitment from the concerned bodies to settle the due payments through the European Bank.

Currently, only 35 percent of the work under Package I has been completed. This package includes the construction of two diversion tunnels designed to redirect the flow of the Seti River, facilitating the construction of the project’s 140-meter high dam. The resumption of work is a positive development for the timely completion of this significant hydropower initiative.
