Contempt of Court Case Filed Against Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa

A contempt of court case has been filed against Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa. Supreme Court spokesperson Achyut Kuikel confirmed that the case has been registered, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

The case stems from Thapa’s remarks made during a Democracy Day event on Thursday, where he criticized the Supreme Court’s handling of the appointment dispute involving constitutional body officials. Thapa had questioned the court’s credibility, pointing to its delay in resolving the issue even after the expiration of officials’ terms.

Advocate Bishal Thapa and others lodged the contempt petition, arguing that Thapa’s comments amounted to undermining the authority of the judiciary.

Currently, the appointment dispute concerning 52 officials from various constitutional bodies remains pending before the Supreme Court.
