In a Standing Committee meeting held today, a majority of CPN (Maoist Centre) leaders voiced their opinion that the party should stake its claim on the National Assembly’s (NA) Chairperson post. The meeting, which took place at the party’s central office in Parisdanda, saw leaders emphasizing that the CPN (Maoist Centre) should not relinquish the NA Chairperson post, given its status as the largest party in the NA.
Agni Prasad Sapkota, the party’s Vice-Chairperson and Spokesperson, addressed the media after the meeting, stating that most leaders agreed that the CPN (Maoist Centre) should assert its position as the largest party in the NA by holding the Chairperson post. The position is set to be vacant from March 3.
The meeting also served as a platform for leaders to discuss recent political developments and ongoing national issues, Sapkota added. While the meeting aimed to designate responsibilities to party leaders, no decisions were finalized. However, discussions revolved around various options for allocating roles among party members, which will be decided upon in the upcoming meeting on Wednesday.
Despite deliberating on the CPN (Maoist Centre)’s plans for the Terai-Madhesh Campaign, scheduled to commence on March 14, and other organizational agendas, no concrete decisions were reached during today’s meeting, Sapkota informed.
Additionally, participants engaged in discussions regarding the recent Mahasamiti meeting of coalition partner Nepali Congress, reviewing the reports endorsed during the meeting and the views expressed therein.
The Standing Committee is scheduled to reconvene on Wednesday, with Party Chairperson and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ expected to address the gathering. Originally intended to conclude today, the meeting was postponed to tomorrow due to PM Dahal’s busy schedule.
