Death Toll Reaches 100 in Monsoon Floods and Landslides Across Nepal; Dozens Still Missing
Nepal is grappling with the aftermath of devastating late monsoon floods and landslides, which have claimed 100 lives across the country. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, 67 people are still missing, and over 100 have been injured. The worst-hit districts include Lalitpur, Dhading, and Kathmandu.
In response, the government has mobilized 9,983 security personnel for search and rescue operations. So far, 3,039 individuals have been successfully rescued from flood- and landslide-affected areas, according to Rishiram Tiwari, the Ministry’s spokesperson.
The district of Lalitpur has reported the highest death toll, with 20 casualties, followed by 15 in Dhading, 12 in Kathmandu, and 10 in Kavre. Other affected districts include Makwanpur (7 deaths), Sindhupalchok (6), and Solukhumbu, Panchthar, and Bhaktapur, with 5 fatalities each. Additionally, deaths have been reported in Dolakha, Sindhuli, Dhankuta, Mahottari, Ramechhap, Jhapa, Udayapur, Ilam, Saptari, and Nuwakot.
Continuous search and rescue efforts are underway as authorities attempt to locate the missing and bring relief to the hardest-hit communities. The combination of relentless rains and unstable terrain has heightened the risks, prompting increased vigilance and deployment of resources to mitigate further casualties.
