Devastation Strikes as Jajarkot Earthquake Claims 129 Lives and Counting, Rescue Operations Underway
Jajarkot, Nepal – A deadly earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4, struck the region at midnight on Friday, leaving a devastating trail of destruction. As of 7:00 AM, the death toll stands at 129, with 92 fatalities reported in Jajarkot and an additional 37 in Rukum West. The number of casualties continues to rise as rescue teams work tirelessly to search for survivors and provide assistance.
The epicenter of this powerful earthquake was located in Ramidanda, Jajarkot, and its impact has been widespread. In addition to the fatalities, many have been injured, with 64 individuals reported injured in Jajarkot and 57 in Rukum.
Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Kuber Kadayat spoke about the ongoing rescue efforts, acknowledging the possibility that the death toll may increase further. He emphasized the readiness of medical teams, along with the deployment of the army and nearby units of the armed forces to provide support and assistance to those in need.
Lokvijay Adhikari, the head of the National Seismological Center, provided details on the earthquake, which struck at 11:47 PM on Friday night. Its tremors were powerful enough to be felt as far away as the capital, Kathmandu, underlining the significant impact of this seismic event. Rescue operations are in full swing as the affected regions come together to cope with the aftermath of this devastating earthquake.
