Dharahara’s Underground Parking to Ease Festive Season Rush
In a bid to ease parking woes during the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has introduced a temporary parking solution inside the Dharahara area. The metropolis has decided to utilize the underground parking of the iconic Dharahara tower, which is still under construction, to cater to the increased demand during the festive season.
Ramesh Poudel, the project manager of Raman Construction Company, announced that this free underground parking service became available starting this past Sunday. The management of this parking area is a collaborative effort between Ward no. 22 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sankata Club, and the construction company.
Poudel explained that while the new Dharahara tower offers a triple basement parking facility, only a single underground level will be used for the free parking service. Currently, this underground parking area can accommodate approximately 100 four-wheelers and around 500 motorcycles.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has recognized that during festivals, parking challenges intensify due to increased mobility, prompting them to arrange this temporary parking facility. Poudel further clarified that this temporary parking service will be discontinued after the conclusion of the Chhath festival, allowing the construction work on the new Dharahara project to resume.
Remarkably, approximately 90 percent of the construction work for the new Dharahara project has already been completed, marking a significant milestone in the redevelopment of this iconic landmark.
