Diplomacy: First and Last Defense for National Sovereignty,” says DPM Shrestha

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha highlighted the imperative of analyzing the evolving geo-political landscape to safeguard national interests. Speaking at an event organized by the Institute of Foreign Affairs on Monday, DPM Shrestha emphasized maintaining relations with the global community, prioritizing the country’s fundamental interests amidst shifting geo-political dynamics.

“Diplomacy stands as our foremost and final defense for sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability, and national independence,” asserted DPM Shrestha. He underscored the necessity for concrete measures to enhance the capacity of diplomats and diplomatic institutions.

Furthermore, he noted that international cooperation and dialogue have broadened in response to challenges posed by climate change, cyber and energy security, international organized crime, and artificial intelligence. DPM Shrestha stressed the heightened significance of diplomacy in navigating geo-political competition and addressing emerging sensitive issues.

“We must cultivate advanced diplomatic skills and proficiency to effectively confront these new challenges,” remarked DPM Shrestha.
