
Dr. Baburam Bhattarai Sworn In as Chair of Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti)


Baburam Bhattarai has been sworn in as the Chairman of the Nepal Socialist Party (Naya Shakti) after securing victory in the party’s general convention. He won the election with 761 votes, defeating his opponent Netra Chapagain, who received 73 votes. The newly elected chairman took the oath of office from the election officer before administering oaths to the newly elected office-bearers and executive committee members at a ceremony held at the Nepal Academy.
The party also announced its new leadership team. Ishwar Rijal, Tek Bahadur Bathamagar, Umesh Sah, Manushi Yami Bhattarai, and Durga Sob were elected as vice-chairs, while Sonamsingh Syangtan was appointed general secretary. Asha Kumar Tamang, Laxman Karki, and Bharat Raj Dahal were elected as secretaries, with Hari Prasad Rijal taking on the role of treasurer.
Following his election, Dr. Bhattarai pledged to launch a new campaign for a people’s revolution. He also announced that the party’s first central committee meeting has been scheduled for February 23 in Kathmandu.
