EC Directs Political Parties to Report Changes within 30 Days

The Election Commission (EC) has issued a directive to all political parties, urging them to inform the commission of any alterations or amendments to their names, statutes, rules, stamps, flags, symbols, and changes in office-bearers within a 30-day timeframe.

Citing Section 51 of the Political Parties related Act, 2073, the EC mandated that political parties must provide these details in a prescribed format. The move aims to curb the longstanding trend of parties failing to disclose changes made within their ranks.

Dr. Thaneshowr Bhusal, Assistant Spokesperson for the EC, emphasized that parties should only submit details after decisions are ratified in their general convention or central executive committee, which are documented by the EC or approved in the general convention where applicable.

Furthermore, the EC stressed adherence to the Political Parties related Act regarding the distribution of party membership, election processes, nomination, appointment of office-bearers, and central committee members.

In addition to these directives, the EC urged parties to conduct financial transactions through banking channels and maintain accounting records in specified formats, ensuring transparency and accountability in party finances.
