EC Gears Up for Upcoming By-Elections
In anticipation of the upcoming by-elections scheduled for the month of Baisakh (April-May), the Election Commission is actively preparing for the electoral process, as announced by Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya.
Chief Election Commissioner Thapaliya revealed that the commission’s preparations are set to escalate in the coming week, with the finalized election date to be announced following consultations with the government.
During a media interaction, Thapaliya disclosed the commission’s plan to present the by-election proposal to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in the upcoming week. He emphasized that the by-elections for all three levels will be conducted simultaneously.
“The compilation of details is in progress, covering crucial aspects such as budget allocation, security arrangements, and updating the voter rolls. After completing preparations in the coming week, we will engage in discussions with the government, and further progress will follow,” stated Thapaliya.
Currently, the by-elections are scheduled for the Ilam-2 constituency, which became vacant after the unfortunate demise of lawmaker Subas Nembang. Additionally, Bajhang-1 will witness a by-election following the tragic loss of Law Minister Prithvi Bahadur Singh in a vehicular accident on June 21 in the Sudur paschim province.
In the latest updates, it has been revealed that a total of 23 constituencies at the local level are also slated for by-elections along with the parliamentary elections.
