Eight Killed, Five Injured in Rautahat Jeep Accident

Eight people lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries in a tragic jeep accident in Rautahat district this morning. The vehicle (Ba 16 Cha 3162) was en route from Gadhimai in Bara to Rautahat when it veered off course and collided with a roadside tree at Lamaha along the East-West Highway.

The passengers were returning home after performing rituals at the Gadhimai Temple, confirmed Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Kumar Rai.

Among the deceased are Ramkumari Devi Mahara, Ram Kumari Mahara, Sakuntala Devi Mahara, Urmila Mahara, Laruwati Devi Mahara, Mahagi Devi Mahara, Phulmati Devi Chamar, and the driver, Sri Kumar Yadav. All victims were residents of Arnama Municipality-3, Siraha district.

The injured—identified as Radha Ram, Aryan Ram, Dev Kumari Mahara, Ritik Mahara, and Kanya Devi Mahara—have been rushed to Birgunj for treatment.

Initial investigations suggest that speeding may have contributed to the accident. Authorities are conducting further inquiries into the incident.
