Election Commission Establishes Joint Election Operation Centre for By-Elections

The Election Commission (EC) has established the Joint Election Operation Centre (JEOC) to address issues that may arise during the upcoming by-elections. The centre, which began operations today, will remain active until the election results are announced.

The JEOC, coordinated by Ravilal Panth, Secretary of the Election Commission, is tasked with overseeing critical aspects of election management. It will monitor the implementation of the commission’s decisions, ensure compliance with the election code of conduct, and address any reported violations. Additionally, the centre will handle complaints and information related to the elections, resolving any issues in real-time to maintain the integrity of the process.

Speaking about the centre’s objectives, Commission spokesperson Nita Pokhrel Aryal emphasized that it aims to ensure smooth conduct of the by-elections through immediate intervention when needed. This centralized mechanism is designed to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the electoral process, she said.

The JEOC comprises representatives from various key institutions, underscoring a collaborative approach to election management and security. Members include senior officials from the Election Commission, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Nepali Army, the National Investigation Department, the Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force.

The centre’s formation highlights the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections. By establishing the JEOC, the commission seeks to mitigate risks, ensure compliance with electoral rules, and maintain public confidence in the democratic process.
