Elephant Calf Found Dead in Belbari-3, Morang District
An elephant calf was discovered dead this morning in the Belbari-3 area of Morang district, causing concern among local residents and authorities. The calf, estimated to be around four years old, was found in a private forest owned by locals Anita Thapa and Rekha Thapa.
Yogendra Prasad Subedi, the chairperson of Belbari Municipality-3, confirmed the incident. “The calf was found early this morning, and we immediately informed the relevant authorities,” Subedi stated.
In response to the discovery, a team from the Sub-Division Forest Office in Belbari, along with personnel from the Area Police Office, Belbari, and the Armed Police Force, Basecamp, Laxmimarg, arrived at the site to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. Acting Chief of the Division Forest Office, Hemant Parajuli, reported that the team has begun collecting details from the scene, though the cause of the calf’s death remains undetermined.
Further investigation is expected to determine whether the death was due to natural causes or if foul play was involved. The incident has raised concerns among local conservationists and the community, who are awaiting more information.
