Embassy of India in Kathmandu Marks 76th Republic Day with Focus on Welfare and Education
The Embassy of India in Nepal celebrated India’s 76th Republic Day on January 26, 2025, with a ceremony emphasizing welfare initiatives, education, and strengthening bilateral ties.
The celebration commenced with the unfurling of the Indian national flag by the Ambassador of India to Nepal, who extended warm greetings to the Indian diaspora in Nepal. This was followed by the telecast of the Republic Day address by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, attended by a large gathering of Indian nationals.
In a significant welfare initiative, the Ambassador honored the widows and next of kin of deceased soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces, disbursing dues worth NPR 5 crore. Additionally, NPR 23.29 crore was distributed to 219 families of deceased servicemen as part of the Army Group Insurance program. These payments covered death-in-service benefits, extended insurance, and maturity benefits for 2024.
The event also saw the unveiling of Bhu Puu 2025, a magazine highlighting welfare programs undertaken by the Government of India for ex-servicemen domiciled in Nepal.
As part of its commitment to education, the Embassy donated books worth NPR 23.5 lakh to 29 educational institutions across six provinces of Nepal. This initiative aims to enhance access to learning materials for students in remote areas, tailored to their specific needs.
The top 50 participants from Nepal in the Bharat Ko Janiye (BKJ) Quiz, conducted from November 11 to December 11, 2024, were felicitated with Certificates of Achievement. This quiz, designed to deepen understanding of India among foreign nationals and the Indian diaspora, included a two-week BKJ Yatra to India for top global winners. Among them was Nepal’s own Nikhil Kumar Das, who participated in the prestigious Yatra.
The event also showcased a video highlighting advancements in India-Nepal relations over recent years. Cultural performances by students from the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kathmandu added vibrancy to the celebrations.
The Republic Day ceremony, live-streamed on the Embassy’s social media platforms, underscored India’s ongoing commitment to welfare, education, and the strengthening of cultural and bilateral ties with Nepal.
